Malay & Indonesian Document Translation Singapore

The Indonesian birth certificate (Akta Kelahiran) is issued by the Dinas Kependudukan dan Catatan Sipil (Civil Registry Office / Disdukcapil). It is written in Bahasa Indonesia and must be translated into English for all ICA and MOM submissions.

The format has changed several times. Older "kulit kuning" (yellow cover) aktas were issued under the colonial-era system and have a different structure from the newer blue format introduced under Indonesia's national civil registration reforms. Both are accepted by Singapore's ICA and MOM, but both must be translated in full — including all official registration numbers, the child's full name, parents' names, and the issuing Disdukcapil office details. We translate both formats.

Common issue: Older kulit kuning aktas sometimes contain handwritten entries, use Dutch-era terminology, or carry municipal stamps that are difficult to read. Our translators are trained on historical Indonesian document formats and will flag any illegibility before proceeding.

Indonesian marriage certificates exist in two main types, issued by different authorities:

Surat Nikah is issued by the Kantor Urusan Agama (KUA) — the Office of Religious Affairs — for Muslim marriages registered under Islamic law. It is the most common marriage document for Indonesian Muslims and is the document most frequently submitted to Singapore ICA and ROM.

Akta Pernikahan is the civil marriage certificate issued by Disdukcapil, either for non-Muslim civil marriages or for Muslim marriages that have been additionally recorded by the civil registry. Both documents are valid proof of marriage, but they have different formats, different issuing authorities, and different field structures.

Singapore's ICA and ROM accept both. Both must be translated and certified. Our Bahasa Indonesia translators are familiar with every field in both formats and can translate both the religious and civil versions accurately.

Indonesian university degree certificates (Ijazah) and academic transcripts (Transkrip Akademik) must be translated for MOM Employment Pass applications. The Kartu Keluarga (KK) is Indonesia's family registration document — similar in function to China's Hukou — listing all household members and their relationship to the head of household. ICA sometimes requests the KK as supplementary evidence of family relationships in PR and Dependent Pass applications, particularly to establish the relationship between a sponsor and their dependant.
