Certified translation is not the same as regular translation
When a Singapore government agency asks for a "certified translation," they mean something very specific. Understanding the difference protects your application.
What "certified translation" means in Singapore
A certified translation is a translated document accompanied by a signed certification statement from a qualified translator or recognised translation company, confirming that the translation is accurate, complete, and a true rendering of the original document. Singapore's government agencies — ICA, MOM, ROM, ACRA, and the Courts — require certified translations for any official document submitted in a language other than English. A translation without a certification statement will not be accepted.
Which Singapore authorities accept our certified translations?
Every translation we produce is formatted and certified to meet the specific requirements of the authority it is being submitted to.
What ISO 17100:2015 means for your document
ISO 17100 is the only international quality standard specifically written for translation services. Here is what it actually means for you — in plain language.
Qualified translator
Your document is translated by a linguist who holds a formal qualification in translation or has verifiable subject matter expertise. Not a bilingual with no professional training.
Independent review
Every translation is reviewed by a second linguist who did not translate the document. This two-person process catches errors that a single-translator workflow cannot.
Confidentiality protocol
ISO 17100 requires documented confidentiality procedures. Every translator and reviewer on our team signs an NDA before handling your documents.
ICA and MOM are trained to look for quality indicators on translation certificates. An ISO 17100 certification statement gives their officers confidence that your document has been through a rigorous quality process — and reduces the chance of a query or rejection on quality grounds.
Certified translation, notarisation, and SAL authentication — what each one is
Many applicants confuse these three terms. They are different steps in the same process — and for ICA submissions, all three may be required.
Certified Translation
The translation document itself, accompanied by a signed certification statement from a qualified translator confirming accuracy and completeness. This is the minimum requirement for MOM, ROM, ACRA, LTA, MOE and CPF submissions. The certification statement includes the translator's name, qualifications, date, and signature.
Notarisation
Notarisation is performed by a Singapore-commissioned Notary Public and attests to the authenticity of the translator's signature and credentials on the certification statement. ICA requires notarisation for personal documents such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, Hukou, and Koseki. Notarisation adds a formal stamp and signature from the Notary Public.
SAL Authentication (ICA requirement since 1 Oct 2019)
Since 1 October 2019, notarised documents for ICA submission must also be authenticated by the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) at Coleman Street, Singapore. SAL verifies the Notary Public's credentials and issues an authentication certificate. Without SAL authentication, ICA will not accept the document — even if it has been correctly translated and notarised. Our one-stop service handles all three steps.

From your document to a certified translation — four steps
Send your document
Email your document to [email protected] with the target authority (ICA, MOM, etc.) and your required turnaround. A scanned copy is sufficient to begin.
We confirm requirements
We confirm whether certified translation only, or certified + notarisation + SAL authentication is required for your specific authority and document type. No assumptions made.
Translation & review
A subject matter translator completes the translation. An independent reviewer checks accuracy, formatting, and certification statement. Both are qualified under ISO 17100:2015.
Certified & delivered
Your certified translation is delivered by email. If notarisation and SAL authentication are required, we coordinate that and deliver the complete set ready for submission.
